Coimbatore Development Ventures (CDV), founded in the last quarter of 2006, is a professionally managed organization, with a mission to deliver new concepts for facilitating growth and upgrading quality in the spheres of business and education.

Mr. K. Ramasubramanian, a professional in the field of public relations and mass media and Mr. S. Kannan, an IT entrepreneur, had jointly promoted the Coimbatore Development Ventures.

OUR VENTURES

CEO’s Forum:

Not stoppingwith the launch of its new venture to spur the growth and development of industries and the economy of this region, the CDV had organized a CEOs forum in April 2007 with a view to provide a platform forindustrialists and businessmen to exchange their views on the development of industries in this region.

THECOIMBATORE DIGEST:

Not resting on its laurels with the star event viz. CEOs Forum, the CDV launched aonline magazine also called `The Coimbatore Digest’ in September last year. Shortly known as the TCD, it is the firste-magazine of the Coimbatore region outside Chennai, dedicated to the industrial and economic growth and development of this region.

TCDRESEARCH:

TCDRESEARCH, the subsidiary of The Coimbatore Digest, will carryout research on various industries, products and services in this region by engaging the services of experts in the given field and make the information to the needy customers for a fee. The research wing will also take up on assignment basis specific projects for study orfor carrying outsample survey of a particular product or service asthe case may be as desired by the customer and provide him the findings on payment of a reasonable charge.

IMAGINE COIMBATORE 2030

Factorslike the availability of skilled manpower in abundance, the salubrious climate, and cordial industry-labour relations, infrastructures likebetter roads, power and drinking water have attracted entrepreneurs tostart their business and industrial ventures in Coimbatore. Engineering giants such as Larsen & Toubro have started establishing theirproduction facilities investing several hundred crores of rupees.

Apart from industries engaged in diverse production and manufacturing activities, the region, particularly Coimbatore city, is also fast emerging as the most favoured destination for the IT sector which wantsto set up its companies here. Big shots in the IT industry like TCS,Wipro, and Cognizant etc have already acquired the lands for setting up their offices.

Evenan independent agency which had carried out a nation-wide survey had described Coimbatore as one among the most favoured Top 10 towns where entrepreneurs would like to establish their industries.

TRANSPORTATION

Coimbatoreis well connected by road, rail and air. Coimbatore is one of the busiest railway junctions in this region fetching the railways asizeable amount of revenue. Though a few trains are operated from Coimbatore to destinations like Bangalore and Chennai a large majorityof the trains, bound for destinations in the north, are operated fromthe nearby Kerala state and run via Coimbatore. The Kurla Express isthe only train that connects Coimbatore with Mumbai.

Given thevolume of freight handled by the Coimbatore railway station and the number of businessmen visiting commercial hubs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Jaipur more number of direct trains should be operated from Coimbatore to destinations in the north.

Coimbatoreis well connected by air to other cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Kochi,Colombo and Bangalore besides Sharjah. The number of airliners operating from the Coimbatore airport has gone up in recent times andmore are willing to commence their operations. The airport has been modernised and the runway has been extended to make way for wide bodied aircraft. Three more bays have been constructed to park aircraft.

A number of associations connected with industry and business have been demanding that Coimbatore be elevated to the status of an international airport and that more direct flights be operated from here. This calls for concerted efforts from various quarters.

HOUSING

The city has been witnessing a boom in the construction industry in recent times with building and flat promoters outside Coimbatore commencing their construction activities here. Big names in the construction industry have opened up their offices here and are executing huge housing projects which run into several crores.

EDUCATION

The city has emerged as a Centre of Excellence for pursuing higher education in various streams. A number of educational institutions offering higher education in management, information technology andengineering have come up over the years churning out thousands of graduates and post graduates every year.

Coimbatore has three universities namely Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, BharathiarUniversity and Anna University besides deemed universities in the private sector.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Siruvani and Pilloor are the two major sources which supply around 125 million gallons of drinking water to the city and its surrounding areas. Power is distributed from the hydel stations in the Nilgiris district and the thermal power from Neyveli in Cuddalore district.

Since many new industries have come up in recent years and more are in the pipeline, the demand for electricity is bound to go up further all out efforts are called for generating more power.

TOURISM

The region has a good number of hill stations and summer resorts like Ooty in the Nilgiris and Yercaud in Salem district that would attract tourists from all parts of the country.

HEALTHCARE

Coimbatore is fast emerging as the medical city of Tamil Nadu next only to Chennai and this is borne out by the presence of a number of super speciality hospitals where world class treatment is availableat affordable cost.

CONCLUSION

In the light of all these factors, it is important to make Coimbatore as the most favoured destination of entrepreneurs by the year 2030 and this calls for all out efforts from various quarters especially from the elected representatives like MPs, MLAs and Ministers. No stone should be left unturned in the mission to realize the ambition of making Coimbatore the hot bed of industrial activity.
